Its Japanese style.
Bathroom facility is not perfect.
We booked into a traditional style Japanese room, complete with futons (sleeping on the floor), tatami mats, Japanese bathroom (including extra deep tub) and no chairs! Once we got used to it, we enjoyed the experience. Located in a great postion - easy to get around Tokyo via train or subway and lots of great local eating places around there.
This is a traditional Japanese ryokan and thus bathroom facilities are somewhat basic and space for clothes and suitcases are limited. We stayed in a superior room which had a separate sleeping area. We didn't try the breakfast as we were rarely up for the 9am finish and previous reviewers had said it was poor. The beds are traditional futons on the floor and were comfortable with decent pillows. The staff were incredibly helpful and spoke enough English. There is a constant supply of filter coffee and free wifi in the lobby. We chose this hotel as it was next door to our friend's apartment and was very reasonably priced for Tokyo. It served our purpose very well.
The main downside of our room was the lack of storage space and poor lighting. If you book a non smoking room, it may still smell slightly of stale smoke as I'm not sure guests take much notice of the rules!
Tatami room which is cozy, breakfast varity is limited and same throughout my six nite stay. Which is bore.
Hotel room was perfect for 3 friends travelling around and staying at Edoya for a few nights, plenty of room, living area, table, sofa and separate room for sleeping. Very near lots of metro lines and good restaurants… Staff also great. Highly recommended.
Hot Bath not the most appealing.
The stuffs are very helpful and friendly!!
I really dislike the bathroom, unconvient to use!
Hotel Edoya is a Ryokan, it's a traditional Japanese inn. It's quite an experience because I never stay at a Ryokan before. The room is so beautiful with a tatami floor, futon, and all the Japanese traditional equipments. It even has a small Onsen. The location is also great and you can find anything you want in walking distance.
Some of the receptionist couldn't speak English and it was a little bit confusing because we came to a missunderstanding. But in the end, the other staff came along and thank God he can speak English so problem solved :)
ryokan style-tatami floor-no shoes, futon beds. however the futon was the softest thing i slept on the 9 days and 6 hotels i stayed at in Japan.
breakfast was free, but get there early as it closes at 9am at we got there at 830 and they put out no more food at that point leaving us with rice only for breakfast (no juice, coffee, or anything else left).
Location it was a good price.
The air-conditioning was not working well. Water pressure was poor. Breakfest was poor. Refrigerator turned off by itself, so our food spoiled.
The facilities are excellent and staff are very friendly.
Great location, helpfull staff and cool Japanese style rooms. I would definately stay at this hotel again
Perhaps the breakfast could have a few more western options
Very nice and quiet location in Tokyo, but only a short walk to busy Akiabara, shops, parks, restaurants. Nice English speaking staff. Washer/dryer available. Good value for money.
A bit too crowded at breakfast. Be there early.
The location is great. Very quiet, walking distance to Ueno, Ochanomizu, and Okachimachi stations. The facilities are rather out of date but we didn't find it a problem, except for the poor air-conditioner.
The room was too hot to sleep.
Japanese style hotel, had a living room and bedroom area separate, quiet, friendly staff, clse to ueno station. comfortable.
cant adjust airconditioning yourself for cooler in room.
It was quaint, the room was charming. Also very large for Tokyo standards.
The room was clean, however the onsen area was in need of a scrub. The indoor tub had grime all over it. The breakfast included was below average- the fish was at an unsanitary temperature. I would only recommend this hotel for those on a budget.
